Grade Two Secret Agents Exploring and Investigating Their World!

Keeping Your Identity Private

I am very proud of my students!  They have been working very hard over these last few months of school.  I am very impressed with the progress that everyone has made in their blogging skills and understanding different digital citizenship concepts.  This week we talked about staying safe online and the importance of protecting our identity by keeping it private.  Students reflected on the question-What kinds of information should I keep to myself when I use the Internet?

As a class we discussed different reasons why it is important not to share our personal information with people we do not know in person and online.  We also talked about what to do when you play a game online and when the game asks you to create a username.  We reflected on previous lessons that explored safety and remember that they need to talk to an adult when a game or website asks for personal information or if you are having a problem online.  Students decided that personal information is your: name, age, phone number, and address.  Together we explored the difference between a good username and a username that gives out too much personal information.  After brainstorming students were able to create usernames that they could use to protect their identity and stay safe online! Check out their ideas below!

Also make sure you have a look at each student’s individual blogs. Lots of students had time to blog about how to stay safe and about keeping your identity private!

Online Field Trip Adventures

Yesterday with our learning buddies we learned about safety.  Everyone had great comments that they wanted to share!  “We learned you have to get permission to go online” (Secret Agent #3).  “You should always log off after you are done” (Secret Agent #2).  “Don’t talk to strangers” (Secret Agent #11).  “Go on things that are just right for you” (Secret Agent #8).  “You should only go to places that you know you can learn” (Secret Agent #6).  “Go on just right sites.”  (Secret Agent # 14).  After we talked about safety we went on an online field trip to the zoo and museumEveryone learned a lot about art and animals from their online field trips.  Students definitely want to return back to the online zoo, especially when we begin our animal unit soon.  They learned a lot about animals in a short amount of time.   “You can see snakes and learn about them” (Secret Agent #16).  “I learned about lizards” (Secret Agent 7).  “I learned Geckos can’t close their eyes because they got no eyelids.” (Secret Agent #9).  “I learned that elephants can growl.”  (Secret Agent #3).

Last week as a class we brainstormed what we thought digital footprint was.  Then we wrote down our predications on a footprint and handed them into Mrs. Kyle.  She told us that we are going to learn about how to be safe when we are online and how we can be a good digital citizens so we have a positive digital footprint.  Today we are going to learn how we travel on field trips in person and online safely.  Along with our Learning Buddies we are going on an online field trip to The San Diego Zoo and Destination Modern Art Museum.  Check back tomorrow on our blog to discover what we learned about during our online field trip and what we learned about safety!

We are ready for a great year of blogging!

Hello Everyone!

We are so excited to learn about blogging this year! Please check come and read our blog every week.  We are going to share what we have been learning about and tell you about events that have happened in our school.  Yesterday our class had fun during the Terry Fox Run.  We went on the Terry Fox Run along with our learning buddies and the whole school.  We are excited to learn tomorrow how much money we raised as a school.  Our classroom raised $330 for cancer research.  We are very proud of ourselves!  Before we went on the run our class read a story, watched a video, and had a class discussion about who Terry Fox was and why we participate in the Terry Fox Run.  Please check out the video that we watched down below.

Blogging

Yesterday we reviewed about what good commenters do on a blog.  We learned about the 3 C’s and Q.  First you need to compliment the author.  Then you need to comment on something that you have explored.  After you need to connect with something that the author has written.  Finally you need to ask the author a great question.

We also talked about what good bloggers do!  When a person writes a post they need to remember not to put capitals in the middle of a word (Secret Agent #9).  If you are stuck on a word sound it out (Secret Agent #6).  You need to have punctuation at the end of a sentence (Secret Agent #18.  You need spaces in between each word (Secret Agent #9).  Put a capital at the start of a sentence and put a capital at the start of a name (Secret Agent #5).

What do you think good commenters and bloggers should do? We would love to hear from you!

Hello everyone! Welcome to our Grade Two Secret Agent blog.  This afternoon was our very first day that we worked on our classroom blog.  Miss Stephanson also started to teach us what a digital footprint is.  After the lesson we worked on our about me pages for our own student blog in our journals.  Tomorrow we are going to type our ideas onto our own blogs! Yeah!
