Hello everyone! We want to welcome you to Black Lagoon Town!
I am so proud of all my secret agents in my class. Everyone was so creative and did a fantastic job working together to make their vision come to life!
It was a lot of fun observing my students playing and interacting with each other using their people that they created during project time. This afternoon students also got out the cars that we have in our classroom to use as vehicles for their people to get around in the community. Students had fun visiting all the different homes and stores that their classmates created for Black Lagoon Town.
I really enjoyed watching all of the students add attention to all the final details when they were putting finishing touches on their community project!
I know my class and I are looking forward to our next learning project!
Today is going to be a great day!! We are going to finish our community project so you will get a chance to see what it looks like with all of the buildings and houses together. Check back later to see the post about our project. This afternoon is going to be busy because we get to spend time with the other grade two class and we have our school October assembly to celebrate all the accomplishments by everyone in our school. Also last recess is going to be extra long because when everyone in C.E.S. raised money for Terry Fox we reached one of our fundraising goals! Great work everyone!!
It is an extra special day because we got to come to school either wearing our costumes for Halloween or coming to school wearing Black and Orange. Check out our awesome costumes!
Today we rolled out long brown paper to work on finishing our community. My students had the great idea to draw in roads, parking lots, trees, and many other great components to a community. They also decided that they wanted to name their community! Every student was given the opportunity to share their idea and suggestion for a name for the community. Here are some of the awesome suggestions:
Very Excellent Community
Carlyle
Angel City
Community Words
Oxbow
Black Lagoon Town
Spooky Town
Halloween Town
Regina
Dinosaur City
Marvelous City
Then as a class they decided to write all the ideas on a piece of paper and pull the name out of a hat instead of having a class vote. The winner was……..Black Lagoon Town! Everyone in the class loves the Black Lagoon books so they were very excited with the name of their community! Tomorrow everyone is going to put final touches on our community and create our community sign!!
On Thursday our class had a very fun day and were lucky to learn from some great guests! In the morning our class and Miss Farrow’s grade two class went to the library to listen to an author and an illustrator read the stories that they had been apart of creating. The first story we listened to was Grandma’s Quiltswritten by Saskatchewan author and teacher Sheryl Kennett Garrett. Both classes enjoyed listening to Sheryl read her story and were excited to see the quilts from the trunk that went along with her story. We had a great conversation about grandparents and learned about quilting.

Then we had the privilege of listening to Saskatchewan illustrator Ione Krainyk read us the story called Penelope The House of Pretend. Ione along with her sisters created this true story of a playhouse that their grandfather helped build. Our class found out that their playhouse now is in Fairlight, Saskatchewan. Everyone enjoyed listening to her story and discussing playing! Both classes were excited to see the pretend food that Ione created for her family to use when they play pretend in the play house.

This week students in our school were given the opportunity to try out to be a part of Missoula Children’s Theatre for the week. Two directors came from Missoula with a truck and trailer filled with a set and costumes and teach students a play/musical in five days and then they present it to the community! Both of the directors have been amazing so far and are very kind to all of the staff and students. During Wednesday and Thursday the directors put on workshops for different grades in the school. On Thursday afternoon our class and Miss Farrow’s grade two class went back to the library to take part in The Marvelous Mini-Musical workshop. This workshop taught us about how to be a performer and we prepared a musical number. After we got into groups and performed the mini musical for each other! Students learned about lyrics, choreography, and rhythm. Everyone had so much fun!

I am looking forward to seeing how they finish up this project and what the community they designed will look like. Please check back next week to see pictures of their community!
Today we are going to begin creating our very own community! Over the past few weeks our class as been learning about communities. We talked about community leaders, community helpers, and discussed what community groups we belong to. We learned that our town is Carlyle, our province is Saskatchewan and our country is Canada. On Tuesday we started to plan our commuity project. We are going to build our very own community! On Tuesday we brainstormed what buildings we needed to have in our community. After we sorted our ideas out into what buildings we need and what buildings we want. Our class learned the difference between a need and a want. A note went home to our families so they knew that we were starting our project. We brought recycled materials from home to school to use for our project. We brought different sized boxes, paper towel rolls, pop bottles, cardboard pieces, and paper plates. On Wednesday we created our project plans. Everyone drew a picture of what their building is going to look like and made a list of what materials they are going to need. Today everyone gets to start building their projects!

Today we are going to learn how we travel on field trips in person and online safely. Along with our Learning Buddies we are going on an online field trip to The San Diego Zooand Destination Modern Art Museum. Check back tomorrow on our blog to discover what we learned about during our online field trip and what we learned about safety!
